General Information

Sebastiania commersoniana is a deciduous shrub or tree with a spreading crown; it can grow 5 - 12 metres tall. The bole can be 30 - 50cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood, especially as a fuel. It can be used in reforestation schemes, especially in wetter soils.

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A high germination rate can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting within 15 - 25 days[]. When the seedlings are 4 - 5cm tall, pot them up into individual containers[].
The seed has a viability of more than 10 months in storage[].
