General Information

Sebastiania brasiliensis is a semideciduous tree with a sparse, roundish crown; it can grow 4 - 5 metres tall. The short, cylindrical bole can be 10 - 20cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. With its small size and attractive crown, the tree is suitable for landscaping, especially for planting in narrow streets and under power lines[].

Other Uses

The wood is moderately heavy, with poor mechanical properties, a low resistance to rot and susceptible to the attacks of white ants[]. Because of its small dimensions, it is only used for items such as boxes and light utensils[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A moderate germination rate can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 28 - 35 days[].
