General Information

Persea venosa is an evergreen tree with a sparse, rounded crown; it can grow 4 - 12 metres tall. The short, slightly crooked bole can be 15 - 30cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. It can be used as a pioneer when restoring native woodland in waterlogged soils.

Other Uses

The wood is coarse-textured, straight-grained, light in weight, easy to cut, with a low resistance to wood-eating organisms. It is generally of too small a size to be used for many purposes other than for toys, boxes and anchor plates[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A germination rate of around 30% can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 40 - 50 days[].
