General Information

Persea willdenovii is a semideciduous tree with a large, dense, rounded crown; it can grow 10 - 20 metres tall. The straight, cylindrical bole can be 40 - 60cm in diameter with a thick bark[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. An ornamental tree, it is suitable for general landscaping[].

Other Uses

The sapwood and heartwood are clearly demarcated. The wood is moderately heavy, slightly hard, of low durability and susceptible to the attacks of dry-wood termites. Easy to work, it is used in joinery, building construction, furniture making etc[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A low germination rate can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting within 25 - 40 days[]. When the seedlings are 5 - 7cm tall, pot them up into individual containers and they should be ready to plant out 9 - 10 months later[].
