General Information

Hilsenbergia lowryana is a deciduous shrub or a tree growing up to 10 metres tall[].
The tree is commonly gathered from the wild for local use as a fuel and source of charcoal, whilst the fruit is also occasionally eaten.
There is evidence that this species is being selectively gathered, as it is valued as a fuelwood, and its exploitation has significantly reduced its abundance and narrowed its distribution[]. It has been given a provisional status of 'Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2011)[].
