General Information

Unonopsis spectabilis is a tree (occasionally more shrub-like), growing around 3 - 25 metres tall. The bole is usually 3 - 30cm in diameter, exceptionally to 80cm[].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food and a medicine. The bark is sold for medicinal purposes in local markets in Peru under the name 'Icoja Negra'[].
Unonopsis spectabilis has a very wide distribution, large population, is not currently experiencing any major threats and no significant future threats have been identified. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[].
