Senecio hildebrandtii has a restricted range in central Madagascar where it occupies no more than five locations. Two of its subpopulations are located within the protected areas network. The species experiences continuing decline due to annual wildfire and artisanal mining and forest exploitation. The plant is classified as 'Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2018)[
