There must be some doubts over the records from 'Illustrated Booklet of 25 Forest Species of Putumayo, Colombia'[]. It describes this species as coming from the Colombian and Peruvian Amazon, but other reports say that the plant is only found in the rain forest of Brazil and Venezuela. However, although we have no other records regarding the wood of this species, it is very likely to be similar to, and have the same uses as, many other members of the genus (which are often traded as 'mandioqueira' wood)[].

General Information

Qualea sprucei is a tree with a dense, subglobose crown; it can grow up to 25 metres tall. The straight, cylindrical bole can be unbranched for up to 18 metres and up to 70cm in diameter[].
The tree is harvested from the wild for its wood. It is sometimes grown as an ornamental[].
