Pinanga scortechinii can be a solitary or, more commonly, clump-forming, evergreen palm with an erect, unbranched stem around 4 metres tall, the stem is topped by a crown of leaves
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a source of a masticatory and various materials.

Pinanga scortechinii is a plant of the humid tropics, where it is found at low to moderate elevations.
Species in this genus generally require a warm, sheltered position with at least moderate shade, especially when young. They grow best in a circumneutral, moist but well-drained soil and strongly dislike dry conditions[
