General Information

Myrciaria strigipes is a semideciduous shrub or small tree with a dense crown; it can grow 4 - 9 metres tall. The short, crooked bole usually branches from low down and can be 20 - 30cm in diameter[].
The tree is harvested from the wild for its edible fruit, which is a popular local food. The plant is sometimes cultivated as a fruit crop[].

Propagation

Seed - it has a short viability and so is best sown as soon as it is ripe. Sow in a semi-shaded position in a nursery seedbed. Germination rates are usually above 90%, with the seed sprouting within 20 - 35 days[]. The seedlings grow away quite slowly[].
