General Information

Eugenia malangensis is an evergreen plant with somewhat woody stems. The plant has an extensive, rhizomatous root system, producing clumps of unbranched stems 15 - 50cm tall - these stems are usually burnt down each year in bush fires, but sometimes survive and become sparsely branched in their second year[

Cultivation Details

The flowers and fruits are normally borne on the current year's shoots which had sprouted, usually following fire, from the underground rhizome. When plants escape burning, branching occurs, and it seems that they can survive as low shrubs, for a short time. Since individuals more than 50cm tall have not been reported it would appear that this species has only a limited capacity for upward growth[
