General Information

Duguetia echinophora is sometimes a shrub, but more commonly a tree, it can grow from 2 - 30 metres tall but is more commonly around 5 - 25 metres tall. The trunk can be 10 - 40cm in diameter[].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food, medicine and source of wood.
Duguetia echinophora has a very wide distribution, large population, is not currently experiencing any major threats and no significant future threats have been identified. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[].

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw. The orange pulp of mature fruits has a sweet flavour[]. The broadly ellipsoid to subglobose fruit is green when young, becoming red at maturity. It is 35 - 90mm long and 45 - 70cm in diameter, comprising 150 - 250 fertile carpels each 9 - 15mm long and 12 - 35mm in diameter[].

Medicinal

The bark is used in the treatment of fevers[].

Other Uses

The wood is used to make frames[].
