Dictyocaryum ptarianum is usually a single-stemmed, evergreen palm that can grow up to 20 metres tall. The plant does, occasionally, produce more than one main stem. The stem is unbranched; it can be up to 20cm in diameter; is supported by a dense cone of stilt roots; and is topped by a crown of 4 - 5 large leaves[
