General Information

Cyrtostachys glauca is a slender to moderate, evergreen palm usually growing around 5.5 - 15. metres tall (up to 21.6 metres in some older multi-stemmed individuals). It produces a small cluster of unbranched stems, each around 5 - 15cm in diameter and topped with a crown of around 6 - 8, large, spreading leaves around 170 - 410cm long including the petiole[].
The plant is a source of wood used locally for construction.
Cyrtostachys glauca has a wide range that does not meet the threshold for a threatened category. There are no immediate threats identified, some parts of the range are within the protected area network and the plant is known from relatively recent collections indicating it is still extant. However, it should be monitored to ensure that any decline in the population can be identified and acted upon. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[].
