General Information

Coussarea hydrangeifolia is an evergreen shrub when growing in poor soils, otherwise becoming a tree with a dense, elongate crown; it can grow up to 5 metres tall. The short, crooked bole can be 15 - 25cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. It can be used as a pioneer plant when restoring native woodland. An ornamental tree, its small size makes it suitable for planting in narrow streets and under power lines[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a sunny position in a nursery seedbed. A germination rate that is normally less than 50% can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 40 - 60 days[].
