Other Uses
The heartwood is light brown with pink or ochre shades; it is not clearly demarcated from the sapwood. The texture is medium; the grain straight, sometimes wavy. The wood is heavy; moderately hard to hard; moderately durable, being resistant to termites but susceptible to fungi and dry wood borers. It is slow to season, with a high risk of checking or distortion; once dry it is moderately stable in service. The wood works well with powered tools, but stellite-tipped and tungsten carbide tools are recommended; nailing and screwing are good, but pre-boring is necessary; gluing is correct for interior purposes. It is used for purposes such as industrial flooring, heavy carpentry, interior panelling and joinery, turnery and sliced veneer[
