General Information

Metrodorea stipularis is an evergreen tree with a globose crown when young, becoming narrow as the tree grows older. It can grow 8 - 12 metres tall. The straight, cylindrical bole can be 40 - 50cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood.

Other Uses

The wood is heavy, hard, compact, with reasonable mechanical properties but of low durability. It is used for internal purposes in construction as linings, stays, beams, base boards, frames etc; and also for carpentry, kitchen ware etc[].

Propagation

Seed - it has a short viability and so is best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed or in individual containers. A moderate germination rate can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 20 - 30 days[]. When the seedbed-sown seedlings are 4 - 6cm tall, pot them up into individual containers and they should be ready to plant out 9 - 10 months later[].
