General Information

Hydriastele wosimiensis is a single stemmed, robust, evergreen palm with an unbranched stem up to 30 metres tall and around 25cm in diameter; this is topped by a crown of around 20 leaves, each of which can be 250 - 300cm long including the petiole[].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a source of materials.
Hydriastele wosimiensis is known only from the type locality in West Papua Province, Indonesia. There is no information on population size, and more data are needed about its range and abundance.The plant is classified as 'Data Deficient' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[].
