General Information

Hydriastele ledermanniana is a single stemmed, robust to very robust, evergreen palm with an unbranched stem that can be up to 30 metres tall and 20 - 35cm in diameter; this is topped by a crown of 15 - 19 arching leaves that can each be 200 - 350cm long including the petiole[].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a masticatory and source of materials.
Hydriastele ledermanniana has a large extent of occurrence and has been reported as common at several localities. There are no known threats. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[].
