General Information

Xanthostemon oppositifolius is a tree.
Heavily exploited in the past for its timber, there is little wood left of any size.
The tree was heavily exploited in the early days of colonisation in Australia, and harvested continually throughout the Second World War. It is poor at regenerating and has now become rare in Papua New Guinea[]. Very few, if any, mature individuals remain. The plant is classified as 'Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2011)[].
