There are two spellings of the specific name. We are following the form in the on-line 2012 version of the Flora do Brasil, but the original entry (as per the International Plant Name Index) was spelled Wunderlichia crulsiana[].

General Information

Wunderlichia cruelsiana is a deciduous shrub or tree with a wide, open crown; it can grow 3 - 6 metres tall. The short, crooked bole can be 20 - 30cm in diameter with a very thick, corky bark[].
The tree yields a low quality timber, but is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use.

Other Uses

The wood is coarse-textured, straight-grained, light in weight, with poor mechanical properties and low durability. It is easy to cut but of low quality and only available in small sizes - it is only used for making low value items such as light boxes[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. Sow the seeds on the surface of the soil and press them down firmly - be careful not to wash them away when watering. A low germination rate can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 40 - 50 days[].
