Medicinal
The main medicinal use of the plant is to counteract diarrhoea or looseness. In the latter case the leaves are cooked together with those of kualamo (Vitex mollis) and guava (Psidium guajava), and the resulting water is drunk frequently[
].
The plant is also used to treat other conditions including to regulate menstruation and as a pectoral in the treatment of cough[
]
Usually the leaf is used to make the decoction, although the fruit or the whole plant are also often used[
].
