General Information

Vitex gamosepala is a tree that can grow more than 30 metres tall, though is usually raher smaller and occaionally has a climbing habit. The bole is usually straight, though can be crooked, and is up to 40cm in diameter338, [].
The tree is harvested from the wild, mainly for local use of its wood.
Vitex gamosepala is experiencing a decline in population coupled with a loss of the quality of its habitat. However, given its large range, and that it can grow in secondary vegetation, the plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[].

Other Uses

The heartwood is light straw to light brown in colour; it is not clearly demarcated from the lighter coloured sapwood. The texture is moderately fine and even, the grain is straight or interlocked. The wood is moderately hard to hard, and moderately heavy to heavy. Most specimens are small trees and their wood of rather limited dimensions, this limits their use to mainly items such as tool handles, posts, turnery, carving, and fancy articles[].
