The heartwood is brown or reddish brown, often with lighter and darker streaks; it is not clearly demarcated from the light brown sapwood. The texture is fairly fine, glossy; the grain somewhat crossed and curly. The wood is moderately hard; moderately heavy; somewhat durable being resistant to beetle attack. It is not difficult to work. The wood is used in construction for purposes such as beams, joists, rafters; posts above stumps; flooring, sheathing, and ceilings; as well as for furniture and cabinetwork[
