General Information

Syzygium fibrosum is an evergreen tree with a neat, rounded crown; it usually grows 6 - 10 metres tall, occasionally to 15 metres. The bole can be up to 30cm in diameter[, , ].
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a food. This species has excellent potential as an ornamental, and is slowly gaining a place in horticulture. The new leaf growth, especially when growing in a sunny position, is a bright, purplish red, whilst selected forms produce masses of cream to yellow or brownish flowers, which attract birds, and are followed by bright pink or red fruits in profusion[].
