The dark brown heartwood is present only in a thin layer; it is demarcated from the sapwood that is a dark violet or pale brown, becoming light brown when exposed to air and often with a grayish cast. It is medium-textured, straight-grained, odourless and tasteless. The wood is rather heavy, strong, fairly tough and probably durable. It is not difficult to work and takes a dull finish[
