General Information

Strychnos minor is a climbing shrub producing stems up yo 12 metres long and 7cm in diameter. The plant can climb into the surrounding vegetation, where it attaches itself by means of tendrils[, ].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local medicinal use

Known Hazards

Various parts of Strychnos plants, especially the seeds and bark, contain toxic alkaloids such as strychnine and brucine. The fleshy pulp of the ripe fruits, however, is often edible[].
A decoction of the wood, bark and roots is used as arrow poison[].
