Sloanea tieghemi is an evergreen plant that can vary in habit from a shrub just a few metres tall at higher elevations to a large tree in the canopy, growing up to 30 metres tall. The cylindrical bole is often crooked with buttresses up to 2.5 metres high at the base; it can be up to 80cm in diameter and unbranched for 6 - 10 metres[
