The heartwood is a pink-brown with copper glints, darkening upon exposure to light; it is clearly demarcated from the 8 - 10cm wide band of lighter-coloured sapwood. The texture is medium; the grain straight or slightly interlocked; resin canals are present, mainly in the sapwood. The wood is moderately heavy; moderately hard to hard; moderately durable, being resistant to dry wood borers and somewhat resistant to fungi and termites. It seasons slowly, with a high risk of distoortion and a slight risk of checking; once dry it is stable in service. It has a fairly high blunting effect and sometimes clogs sawblades and tools with resin - stellite-tipped and tungsten carbide tools are recommended; the irregular grain can cause a fuzzy surface when planing; nailing and screwing are good; gluing is correct. Yields of heartwood can be rather low due to the resin canals and the wide band of heartwood. It is used in construction, light carpentry, joinery, furniture components, flooring, boxes and crates, veneer etc[
