Other Uses
The heartwood is red-brown with the frequent presence of traumatic canals; it is clearly demarcated from the 5 - 8cm wide band of sapwood. The texture is coarse; the grain straight. The wood is moderately heavy; moderately hard; not very durable, having a good resistance to dry wood borers but susceptible to fungi and termites. It seasons slowly, with a high risk of checking and distortion; once dry it is poorly stable in service. It can be worked with ordinary tools; nailing and screwing are good; gluing is correct. The wood is used in construction, interior joinery, heavy carpentry, flooring, furniture components, matches, blockboard, moulding, veneer etc[
