General Information

Ruprechtia laxiflora is a semideciduous tree with a dense, narrow, pyramidal crown; it can grow 10 - 20 metres tall. The straight, cylindrical bole can be 40 - 70cm in diameter[].
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. An ornamental plant, it is used in landscaping[].

Other Uses

The heartwood is light brown; the sapwood is yellowish. The texture is medium; the grain straight to interlocked; odour and taste are indistinct. The wood is moderately heavy, hard, with fairly good mechanical properties and quite durable, even when exposed to the elements. It is easy to work and finishes well. It is used for making furniture, door and window jambs and general carpentry[, ].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A germination rate in excess of 50% can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting within 15 - 25 days[].
