Other Uses
The heartwood is brown, yellow-brown, or reddish-brown; it is not always clearly demarcated from the light brown to whitish sapwood. The texture is fine to medium; the grain straight to irregular; lustre is high; there is no distinctive odour or taste. The wood is generally reported to be vulnerable to attack by decay fungi and insects. It dries rather slowly and is prone to severe checking unless air dried carefully. It is rated as fair to good in all machining operations; however it will tend to tear when planing irregular grain. The wood is used for heavy construction, posts, railroad crossties (treated), furniture, flooring, turnery[
