The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine and source of wood.
The main cause of population reductions has been overexploitation of the timber, and possibly also of the bark for medicinal use. Regeneration is reported to be poor and few young trees can be found. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2011)[
