General Information
Pinanga caesia is a single-stemmed, evergreen palm with an erect, unbranched stem that is topped by a crown of lightly arching leaves; it can grow around 3 metres tall.
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a source of a masticatory and various materials. One of the more colourful of palms, it is often grown as an ornamental.

Cultivation Details
Pinanga caesia is a plant of the humid tropics, though it is somewhat cold tolerant and can also succeed in a frost-free subtropical climate. Plants can handle occasonal short periods with temperatures down to around 1°c with little leaf damage.
Grows best in a moist but well drained soil with filtered sun, though it can tolerate full sun. Requires a position sheltered from cold winds.

The seeds are sometimes chewed as a substitute for betel nut (Areca catechu)[
