The heartwood is a purplish brown with a grayish cast; it is clearly demarcated from the yellowish white sapwood which turns to yellowish brown on exposure to light. The texture is uniformly even; the grain straight; the wood is free of distinctive odour but has a very bitter taste. The wood is light in weight, firm and rather tenacious; durable. It is not difficult to work and is capable of taking a smooth polish. It is used for general construction[
