General Information

Phylloxylon arenicola is an evergreen shrub or small tree that grows up to 4 metres tall. The bole can be 15cm in diameter[].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use of its wood.
This species is known only from Baie de Rigney and Baie d'Irodo forests in north-east Madagascar, with an estimated range of less than 10 square kilometers. These areas are under severe local pressure from selective cutting and degradation. The plant is classified as 'Critically Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[].
