General Information

Pera glabrata is an evergreen tree with a perfectly globose, dense crown; it can grow 8 - 10 metres tall. The short, cylindrical bole can be 40 - 50cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. It is also suitable as a pioneer species in reforestation projects for native woodlands. It has an attractive shape and is suitable for growing as an ornamental[].

Habitat

Cultivation Details

Prefers a sunny position[]. Succeeds in well-drained soils and also those subject to periodic inundation[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A germination rate of around 40% can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 15 - 25 days[]. When the seedlings are 4 - 5cm tall, pot them up into individual containers[].
