The heartwood is pink-brown to red-brown, darkening upon exposure; it is not well defined from the lighter coloured sapwood. The texture is moderately fine and even; the grain shallowly interlocked but sometimes deeply interlocked; planed surfaces are fairly lustrous, with a stripe figure on the radial surface; seasoned wood has no characteristic odour or taste, though freshly sawn wood has a sour smell. The wood is moderately durable, though it is susceptible to attack from termites. It seasons slowly, with little tendency to check or warp. It is slightly difficult to difficult to resaw and is easy to slightly difficult to cross-cut; planing is easy to slightly difficult and planed surfaces are smooth; nailing and gluing are good. The wood is suitable for interior finishing, panelling, joinery, furniture. flooring and other light construction, instrument boxes and T-squares[
