General Information

Paranephelium xestophyllum is an evergreen tree, occasionally no more than a shrub, growing up to 20 metres tall, exceptionally to 40 metres. The bole can be 10 - 45cm in diameter, occasionally to 75cm, often with stilt roots up to 60cm, or with buttresses up to 70cm high[].
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a food and source of oil and fuel.

Habitat

Understorey tree of various kinds of forest, often along rivers, rarely in often seasonal swamps, also on hill slopes, rarely on dry ridges or summits, typical of wetter soils; at elevations from sea level to 300 metres, occ to 1,100 metres[].

Found in the wild on wetter soils on clay, podsol, sand over igneous rock, sandstone or limestone[].
