The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food, medicine and source of materials.
Palaquium grande is endemic to Sri Lanka where it has been collected in several localities, many of which have been made in what has become fragmented landscapes with a declining extent and quality of habitat. Many of the localities may therefore no longer contain this species. The plant is classified as 'Near Threatened' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2018)[
