General Information

Oxandra venezuelana is a tree usually growing from 4 - 35 metres tall, exceptionally reaching 50 metres. The trunk can be around 10 - 60cm in diameter[].
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a source of wood.
Oxandra venezuelana has a wide range and is found in many different locations. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2020)[].

We have seen no reports on edibility, but the fruit is composed of 4 - 15, purple-black, ovoid to ellipsoid monocarps, each around 10 - 25mm long and 6 - 12mm wide[].
