Common Name: Chichicaste

General Information

Chichicaste is a large shrub or small tree, usually growing 3 - 6 metres tall but with exceptional specimens to 10 metres[, ].
The plant is sometimes gathered from the wild for local medicinal use. It is also sometimes cultivated as a hedge[].

Central America - Panama, north to Mexico.

Habitat

Moist thickets or forest, sometimes in second growth, at elevations of 200 - 2,600 metres[]. Evergreen forest formations on both the Caribbean and Pacific slopes in Costa Rica at elevations from sea level to 1,100 metres[].
