General Information

Myrcia obovata is an evergreen tree with a dense, globose crown; it can grow 4 - 6 metres tall. The straight, cylindrical bole can be 20 - 30cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. It has a very ornamental appearance and is used in landscaping, being especially suitable for planting in narrow streets and under power lines[].

Found in both primary and secondary formations of the Atlantic rainforest; gallery forests; occasionally in pastures and open places; growing mainly on or towards the tops of slopes, usually on deep, fertile, well-drained, clayey soils[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A low germination rate can be expected, with the seed sprouting within a few weeks[].
