General Information

Myrcia fenzliana is an evergreen small tree with an elongate or pyramidal crown; it can grow 4 - 6 metres tall. The short bole can be 15 - 25cm in diameter. When growing in poor, stony and dry terrains the plant is more likely to be a small shrub[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. It can be used in landscaping, being suitable for planting in narrow streets and under power lines[].

Cultivation Details

Grows best in a sunny position[]. Tolerant of poor dry soils, though rather stunted in such conditions, it prefers a moist, well-drained, stony soil[].

Other Uses

The wood is medium-textured, moderately heavy, hard to cut, with moderate mechanical properties and of low durability when exposed to the elements. Because of its small dimensions it is only used locally, being employed for purposes such as tool handles and oxen yokes[].
The wood is used for fuel and to make charcoal[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a sunny position in a nursery seedbed. A low germination rate can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 40 - 60 days[]. When the seedlings are 5 - 7cm tall, pot them up into individual containers and they should be ready to plant out when they are 25 - 35cm tall[].
