General Information

Mouriri glazioviana is a semi-deciduous tree with a pyramidal crown; it can grow 8 - 12 metres tall. The crooked bole is usually somewhat riddled with holes, it can be 15 - 25cm in diameter[].
The edible fruit is popular locally - it is often harvested from the wild. The tree has been recommended for local cultivation[].

Fruit - raw[]. The brown to black, globose berry can be 30cm in diameter, it contains a sweet, succulent pulp surrounding 1 - 3 large seeds[].

The wood is medium-textured, straight-grained, moderately heavy, with average mechanical properties and with a poor resistance to rot. It is hard to cut, but is used for lumber and general construction[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A germination rate of around 25% can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 4 - 6 months[].
