Other Uses
The heartwood is a uniform light yellowish brown; it is not clearly differentiated from the lighter brown sapwood. The texture is fine; the grain straight; lustre is medium; growth rings are indistinct; seasoned wood is without distinctive odour or taste. The wood is hard, moderately heavy, strong, tough, it is considered very susceptible to attack by dry-wood termites. The rate of air-seasoning is rapid, and the amount of degrade is moderate. Machining characteristics are as follows : planing, turning, boring, mortising, sanding, and resistance to screw splitting are good; and shaping is excellent. The wood is fairly rich in silica, which dulls saw teeth and cutting edges and makes it moderately difficult to work. However, it takes a high polish. A good quality wood, it is used for posts and in constuction. It is suitable also for veneer, plywood, furniture, cabinetmaking, turning, interior trim, flooring, farm implements, tool handles, and general carpentry[
