General Information

Micrandra elata is an evergreen tree with a dense, tall crown; it can grow 10 - 20 metres tall. The bole is slightly fluted, it can be 30 - 60cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. It can be used in reforestation projects and, being an elegant tree with a beautiful crown, it can be used in landscaping projects[].

The wood is medium-textured, moderately heavy, of low durability. Soft to cut and easy to split, it is used for low value items such as making ceilings, toys, boxes, door fillings etc[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A high germination rate can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting within 15 - 25 days[]. When the seedlings are 4 - 5cm tall, pot them up into individual containers and they should be ready to plant out 5 - 6 months later[].
The seed has a short viability of less than 4 months in storage[].
