Other Uses
The heartwood is an attractive light brown with darker streaks, often with an attractive orange overcast; it is not distinctly demarcated from the light brown sapwood. The texture is moderately coarse; the grain straight to frequently interlocked; lustre is medium; growth rings are faint; the seasoned wood has no discernible odour or taste. The wood is moderately heavy; firm; tough; not very durable, being very susceptible to attack by diy-wood termites. The rate of air seasoning is moderate, but the amount of degrade is considerable. The wood is difficult to work; machining characteristics are as follows : planing and resistance to screw splitting are excellent; .shaping, turning, boring, and mortising are poor; and sanding is good. Although the wood is attractive, few trees become large enough for commercial timter, but the wood is used locally for construction and carpentry. Though difficult to work, it is also suitable for furniture, cabinetwork, paneling, interior trim, and boxes and crates[
