General Information

Marshallocereus aragonii is a spiny, evergreen, shrubby, columnar cactus with stems that can be 12 - 15cm in diameter. Branching basally, the plant usually lacks distinct trunks; it can grow 5 - 8 metres tall[, ].
The species is harvested from the wild for local use as a food. It is used to make living fences and is also grown as an ornamental[].
Although Marshallocereus aragonii has a fairly restricted range, it is common to abundant where found and there are no major threats because it grows in canyons and on steep slopes where there is unlikely to be any disturbance. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2017)[].
