General Information
Maranthes glabra is a tree with a dense, wide-spreading crown; usually growing up to 20 metres tall but exceptionally to 40 metres. The straight, cylindrical bole is usually up to 100cm in diameter, occasionally to 150cm; it can be unbranched for up to 15 metres and has small buttresses[

Other Uses
The heartwood is pink or reddish; it is demarcated from white to yellow-brown sapwood, which has attractive longitudinal veining. The wood is hard and heavy, sinking when fresh. Throughout its range, the wood is considered to have little value for carpentry - it is said to be difficult to work and have no use except for making canoes. It is used in some areas, however, for making beams and stakes[
